PinBox Questionnaire
almost 6 years ago – Tue, Jul 31, 2018 at 11:11:42 PM

Hello Lovely People,

I've got a couple of questions that you can help me with (if you want).

Answering the questions will helm me pre-order some of the things needed for fulfillment of PinBox. This questionnaire will also help me determine any add-ons to offer during the backer surveys.

Use this link to participate in the questionnaire:

PinBox Complete Design Guide
almost 6 years ago – Tue, Jul 24, 2018 at 10:51:18 PM

 Hello Friends!

In this video I show you how to design and customize your own PinBox. You will need the PinBox print files, some 12" x 12" Kraft-board, some glue, and a print machine or a craft knife and straight edge.

The video is broken down into three parts of about 7 minutes each.

  • Part 1 is an intro and materials list.
  • Part 2 shows how to use Photoshop (or a similar program) to customize and alter PinBox.
  •  Part 3 shows how to use the Cricut Design Software to make exact cuts and scorelines for PinBox

The video is presented to the new maker/DIY builder. Thus, most of the information is presented from the ground up. Experienced builders may already know how to use the software or navigate the Cricut machine. If that is the case for you, skip to the next part.

PinBox design files have not yet been released. They will be released to Backers of PinBox Kickstarter and to anyone who purchases PinBox after the Kickstarter is over.

Leet me know your thoughts on this video in the comments below. Was it easy to understand? Are you a first time builder? Have you used Photoshop before? Did I miss something that would make the information easier to understand?

Cheers,

Rob

Building PinBox! A first look at the build process.
almost 6 years ago – Sun, Jul 15, 2018 at 08:03:37 PM

Hello Lovely People!

PinBox is fun to build!

I know from experience that some backers of the box may not have much "Maker" experience. Above you will find a video about how to build PinBox. It's twenty-three minutes from start to finish, but don't worry. I have broken it down into sections. This way you can watch a little when you have the time.

The expected build time for PinBox is about 45 minutes to an hour for your first build when using the glues I suggest. Most of that time is spent allowing the slow-setting glue to dry. If you want to shave almost half of the build time straight off the top just use fast-drying glue.

I recommend using white school glue, one minute set super glue, instant bond super glue, and some double sided tape

If you are an experienced model builder, and would like to move more quickly, I  suggest using one-minute setting super glue. I would shy away from instant bond glues for the entire project. Instant bond glue dries too quickly for some parts of the project.

Please watch the video and leave me some feedback. Let me know if any areas need clarification. I' using this video as the basis for the written instructions, just in more brevity. Any suggestions here will help with the final draft.

Thank you to everyone who has backed and supported this project!

Cheers,

Rob!

Hi from PinBox!

Hello Lovely People!

Rob here. I just wanted to take a moment and thank everyone that has backed PinBox to make this project come to life. I've got a video coming for you later about how to build PinBox. I think you'll like it.

Allow me to take one moment to share with you why PinBox is important (other than it's a fun DIY pinhole camera, of course):

Love of film is growing, but equipment is aging. I can think of several great products that have breathed new life into the film community; Chroma By Steve Lloyd, pixl-latr by Hamish Gill, and the Solarcan by Sam Cornwell. Each of which have brought new innovation to the film space and seen exciting success because of it.

So what about PinBox? Well, PinBox was designed as a tool to help YOU think like THEM... outside the box (pun intended). PinBox helps you learn through building. We need more minds that can find a need and fill it. PinBox is the first step for many.

So, while the project is small, it could have a big impact in helping people think differently about film photography. It's pretty exciting.

Please, help the project by sharing your backing status and telling your friends.

I'll catch you guys on the flip side!

Cheers,

Rob
